Where is your safe harbor?

Look at my adorable little family!

When I'm home alone I usually turn on the itunes and sing along to whatever song I can belt along with.  I even have a playlist titled, "I Want To Sing", after the Regina Spektor song that I love.  On the IWTS playlist is one of my all time favorite songs.  For some reason tonight it made my mind race.  The song is "Safe Harbors" by Michael Mclean.  Yes, he is an LDS composer, writer, etc.  His music not only applies to the mormon religion, but anyone who believes in God, struggles with life, or wants something uplifting and different to listen to.  I've been debating what to write to explain the song, but I figured the actual lyrics would do the best.  I want to know what your safe harbors are or what you have done to help someone to your safe harbor.  We need to think of these people in need of support, love, and friendship especially entering into another holiday season that is usually so commercialized.

There are refugees among us
that are not from foreign shores
and the battles they've been waging
are from very private wars.
and there are no corresdpondents
documenting all their grief
but these refugees among us are
are yearning for relief.

There are refugees among us
they don't carry flags or signs
they are standing right beside us
in the market check out lines
and the war that they've been fighting
it will not be televised
but their story of their need for love
is written in their eyes.

this is a call to arms
to reach out and to hold
the evacuees from the dark
this is a call to arms
to lead anguished soles
to safe harbors of the heart.

Can you see through their disguises
can you hear what words wont tell
some are losing faith in heaven
because their lifes a living hell
is there anyone to help those
who have no where else to flee
for the only arms protecting them
belong to you and me.

this is a call to arms
to reach out and to hold
the evacuees from the dark
this is a call to arms
to lead anguished soles
to safe harbors of the heart.

Can you feel the needs of the refugees
for safe harbors of the heart

First of all...you've done it again! They don't care if flags are sized? I'm pretty sure it's: They don't carry flags or signs. So quite mass-a-cre-ing songs! Seriously, though, thanks for being a huge part of my safe harbor of friends and family (you just happen to fit both categories!) Great post!

I knew someone would konw the right lyrics! I searched for that sentence online forever trying to get it because I knew I sang the wrong lyrics every time! I do that to a lot of songs. :)

My safe harbor is my family, my savior, my friends and relationships.
I used to think my work was a safe harbor but it's nothing more than a means to the end. I spent far to much time with work when i should have been family-ing!

What do I provide as a safe harbor for others? Well, Hopefully, it's just a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, a place to vent and all of this can happen and you can still feel safe if your sharing or using me as a punching bag.

Great post Missy! I need to do one too.
