Unemployed...again or still?

Here's my life story for the day...

About 1-1/2 weeks before Christmas I thought I had a job. The company I had been interviewing with for 3+ weeks brought me in to fill out papers, read & sign the employee handbook, take the drug test, submit driving record, and went over how much they would be paying me for the first 90 days of employment. He then looked at a calendar and said that it would be best to start after the holidays, he pointed to a date and I agreed with him that would work out.

Well, that date was coming up and I got an email from the guy asking me to come in for a meeting. The day he wanted me to come in was after the start date we discussed, which of course stressed me out a little bit. So I go in the day we have scheduled and he says to me that "the committee still needs to approve" me being hired. This was like a slap in the face! I was like whoa, wait a second, you already offered me a job before Christmas. Apparently, the company was not all on the same page. So I sat there quietly listening to him try to back up what he was saying.

He's a true salesman, so he had me convinced there were no issues and this was basically a formality. So I left in a better mood and a promise from him that I would hear from him the next evening. Well, I didn't hear from him which was annoying, but I waited it out until the next day. I got an email that morning saying the meeting with the committee went well, but he still needed to meet with one more person to figure out pay. Again, I thought to myself, what the hell- didn't you already offer me a wage? Who in their right mind offers someone a certain wage when they don't have it approved by anyone!!!?? Idiot. His promised in his email that I would hear from him that evening. Well, again I didn't hear from him which was just great. I know he has a life and all, but seriously, don't say you are going to do something unless you intend to follow through. So this morning (yes, they have drug it out this long) I email the guy and ask for an update. He waits 3 hours and emails me back saying that due to my driving record they are unable to hire me.

What!!! My driving record? The one they have had for weeks?? By the way, I pulled my driving record to give it to them, so I know what it says. 3 speeding tickets...that's it! Not to mention the last one was 3 years ago. Yes, I haven't had a ticket in three years...nor have I ever had a DUI or reckless driving. I've never even been in an accident!!! So B.S. it's my driving record. Also, there have been two companies in the last three years that I worked for that insured me on their vehicles with no issues at all.

So Tom came to the conclusion that the coward (as he is now known in my house) didn't get approval from the "committee" to hire me, so he came up with something. Really though, if it was something about me, I would like to know. If it was a personality flaw, or not enough experience, or something under my control, I wish they would have told me about it. Driving record, my A**. Can you tell I'm upset?
What makes me most upset is that since the coward gave me a START DATE, I stopped looking for work! So now, I have to start over the job search. If I would have known 2 weeks before Christmas that it wasn't a for sure thing, I would have still been looking for back up possibilities!!

So I'm still unemployed...thankful to not work for such a jerk...hoping I will find something on Monday. Unfortunately there are no cabinet positions available in Bellingham and surrounding areas, so I'm going to have to find something out of the field for now. Small paycheck, here I come! Oh the joy of not having a degree.
