One of my biggest pet peeves is bad driving skills. I get so frustrated on the road when people don't obey simple traffic laws. We all had to go through the training so everyone should be aware. There are signs everywhere to help you out if you are confused. These are the things that drive me crazy...
1- Excessive speed: is it necessary to go 45 mph in a 35? You will make it to your destination a whole minute sooner, oh unless you get pulled over for speeding. This actually happened one time while I was on the freeway. I was passed by a young idiot driver who was going about 95 in a 65 and he was nice enough to pass me in the emergency pull out lane which really isn't a lane. About 10 minutes later I passed him with flashing lights directly behind him. Karma.
2- No Signaling: This is a very simple rule that needs to be followed. I'm not psychic, I don't read minds, therefore I don't know when you are going to switch lanes. The worst is when someone is slowing down to turn without their signal and you are trying to turn right on a red, but your not sure if they are just slow or actually turning. A signal would help! I often find myself yelling, "Nice signal, Jerk!"
3- Cruise Control: When traveling long distances, please use cruise control. It's actually a very convenient little button on most cars. I will be driving down the freeway with my cruise set at a certain speed and the same car will be ahead of me, behind me, ahead, behind, you get the picture. Then when you end up passing them they freak out, get ahead of you and end up eventually slowing down again. Just use it.
4- Tailgaters: Get off my bumper seriously. I don't mind aggressive driving, I do it myself when necessary. There are places where you are going to be bumper to bumper, but when you are driving and there is tons of room and you can barely see the car behind you because he is so close to the back of your car there is a problem! That happened to me this morning which is what brought on this venting rampage. This is what causes people to have road rage. I should have just went ahead with my driving, but instead I slammed on my brakes, stopped abruptly at the red light, the guy got even closer to me and at this point I couldn't even see his headlights. So when the light turned green I stayed on the brakes, the guy started honking and when the light turned yellow I went...really slow...of course he sped off during the red light. So it was immature on both parts, but I felt better afterwards. It was 6:45 in the morning, where could this punk kid be going and he didn't make it any further with tail gating than he would have with a nice distance behind my car. And why did he pick me? I didn't cut him off, I didn't do anything apparent to make him ride me so close. It's so annoying.
I should have been a cop. I don't think you should have driving privileges if you can't obey the law. I guess not everyone has learned their lesson, but I think I have. I've had too many tickets in the past for a lot of driving offenses. My licenses has been suspended due to multiple speeding violations, my insurance sky rocketed, and I brought it on myself. So I'm now all for obeying the laws, why can't everyone else?
