Tom had a customer in town this weekend, so we got to be tourists in our own city (can I call Seattle "my city"....? Probably not, but I'm going to anyway because it's more exciting than calling it "The place we go to every weekend when we want something to do, not there's anything wrong with Bellingham because we love it too.")
Anyway, we took Don, the customer, to the Seattle Underground which is a 90 minute tour of...dun dun dun...underground Seattle. (I'm sure you got it already from the name.) In 1889 there was a huge fire and to make a long story short, they basically built a new city on top of the old because it was easier than remodeling all the old buildings. The history was fun to listen to, they tempted me to buy a book about it, but I didn't since it would probably sit on my nightstand for months while I watched my favorite shows on hulu...darn that tv!
I can't post all my pictures because I'm making my family take the tour when they are in town for the wedding later on in the year, but here are a few sneak peaks!
Old toilet and sink from before the Seattle fire!
We were standing in the first level of the building that was covered up later when they built a new city on top of the old!
Can you believe the original sidewalks looked this good? Goes to show the quality of work 'back in the day', seriously those grout lines are amazing for being so old!
Isn't this gorgeous! An original door from the late 1800's! I wanted to take it home!
