I have this metal star shaped box that I keep all our spare change in. The last few months it's been overflowing onto the dresser, so last night I decided to gather it all up and take it to the Coinstar machine at our local grocery store. Tom had me take out all the quarters since the machine takes 10 cents for every dollar, so we only had dimes, nickels, and pennies. On the way to the store Tom said, "Let's guess how much money is in the bag and whoever is the closest gets to keep it." I'm not very nice so I told him we could guess it, but I'm keeping it no matter what because it's my yearly payment for laundry and picking up his pants off the floor. (Insert cheesy grin here)
My guess was $10.24
Tom's guess was $14.11
We went into the store, stood in front of Coinstar, poured the change in, and waited. The coins make the loudest noise while going through the machine, people stare, your face turns red, etc. Finally after a few minutes a voucher is printed.
The total was $12.76.
I already lost, whatever, I was keeping the money anyway. Then Tom points out the $12.76 was the total AFTER they charge their fee.
You'll never guess the total before fee...
$14.15
