"Hoo Hoo Hoo"

Last night I heard the coolest noise! Well, Tom heard it first, I tried convincing him it was Champ sleeping, he then looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "That noise is definitely coming from outside." Whatev. Anyway, we listened to it for a couple minutes inside, the snuck outside to hear it better. The owl must have been perched in one of the trees in our backyard because we could hear it pretty close! The reason this is so exciting to me...I've NEVER heard an owl before!
So today I wasted a good amount of time looking up different species of Owls in Washington. From the description of their hoo-hoo hoo hoo's I've narrowed it down to either the Great Horned Owl or the Barre Owl. I'm still not sure what he was making noise for, whether it mating, distress, or who knows.
Either way, that was the most exciting thing that has happened to me this week!

I don't think I have ever heard an owl before. I love that you researched them and narrowed down your search! How is the job hunting going?
That is so Cool Missy! Owls are a really cool creature. We used to catch burrowing owls in the desert as a kid. They would build their nests in the ground. We would find their nest and then wait until night and watch thm hop out of their hole, snag them and then tie a string to their leg and feed them and let them fly around. we let them loose eventually. They are really amazing birds.
