I made it through my first day of work! My feet are killing me, and for some strange reason my back aches. I realized today just how lazy I have been since oh about December. I really could use a foot massage, but I guarantee Tom will have no sympathy for my pains!
Work is great so far. I'm working for a place called Wood Monsters. It's an interesting set up. It's a warehouse in Mount Vernon (about 30 miles south of Bellingham) and there are three companies in the warehouse. The first was Wood Monsters who sells wood, laminate, and engineered flooring. Then Design Decor moved a few of their items into the warehouse and took on the Wood Monsters name. The last company is Carpet Liquidators, I bet you will never guess what they sell, yes it's carpet. I spent most the day learning the basics of carpet. I learned quite a bit at Franklin, but I'm not willing to offer up that information because I really need a refresher course.
I got hooked up with them through Design Decor. I had dropped off a resume in November and he told me he was shutting the doors, but he would keep my resume if this other thing worked out for him. A couple weeks ago I got an email from him asking if I had a job yet. I wanted to scream "Praise the Lord!" because I have had the hardest time looking for jobs out of the industry. He called me the day after my first interview and offered me the job. I'm making a lot less than I was at both Franklin or Stock, but at this point I don't even care. Well, I do care, but I'd rather be working than sitting at home. At least there is commission and the sales seem really easy, so I'm hoping it works out!
I'm really excited about it because the atmosphere and people are more similar to my jobs before Stock. (The dreaded S word!!!) I'm basically the cabinet designer, the manager does a lot of cabinet sales, but doesn't work with the design program, which is my specialty! His wife helps with the flooring sales, so hopefully I will be relieving her a lot with taking over most of those sales.
BEST part....I will be selling Medallion! (Reason I hated Stock...horrible horrible cabinet lines.) Medallion is the best, I love the selections and the people in the company. OH I'm so excited to start designing with it again, especially after some amazing new styles and colors available over the last 1 1/2 years! Ah...sigh...bliss...whatever you want to call it...I'm happy.
