We lost one
Last night Tom and I were playing with the puppies and noticed that the runt wasn't feeding at all, so Tom spent quite awhile trying to hold her and help her latch onto the nipple. She just couldn't find it without his help and when she finally found it she didn't have enough energy to get any milk. So we looked online to see if there were any helpful hints and there was a website that said the pup may be low on glucose. We took Karo syrup and put a little bit in her mouth which was supposed to help her with energy to eat. That wasn't working so I called the Animal Hospital (this was at 12:30 am) to see what could be done. The nurse told us to buy a puppy formula and that we could get it at their location. We drove there as fast as we could and bought the formula that came with the cutest tiny bottle. We drove home and rushed upstairs to try feeding the runt some formula. I had her wrapped in a warm hand towel and I was trying to squeeze the bottle in her mouth because I knew she didn't have the strength to suck on it. She started breathing really slow, so we jumped in the car and went back to the hospital. The nurse took the puppy and ran to the back room with her. Tom and I waited for only about 5 minutes when she came back out carrying the puppy all wrapped up in our towel. They tried CPR and a couple other things that I don't remember, but it was too late. It was so sad and I had a feeling she was gone when we got there because her breathing was so slow in the car and when we pulled up I couldn't feel it at all. So we had to take her home and wrap her in a box to dispose of her. Both Tom and I got a little teary eyed because she was so cute and it's hard to see it happen especially when we spent all night trying to keep her alive. The strange part was that Holly had tried take care of her the first day and then yesterday I noticed that she kept the four puppies in a bundle and the runt was always a couple feet away. Every time I checked on them I would put the runt back with the puppies, but after reading on the internet for awhile that was pretty normal. When the mom knows there is something wrong with her pup or she knows it's not strong enough to survive she will leave it to die and focus on taking care of all the other pups. It's pretty sad, but makes sense in a weird way. She was so worried about the baby at the beginning of the night though, she just kept carrying her around in her mouth while the puppy was crying. The other four are healthy and have grown a lot in the last couple days. They eat all day long, so I think we won't have any problems with them at all.

That is so sad! I hate it when little baby animals don't make it! I wish that we could have a cute puppy but we are to far away! Kasen would love it!
You and Tom are so very tender with these little buggers! You are good "Midwives" ha ha ha
