Tom bought me two goldfish a few weeks ago. We purchased a traditional round tank, bright blue rocks, and I hand picked a cute little tree for the center. I was like a 3 year old wandering around Petco on a Sunday afternoon carrying my bag of goldfish. This is after I annoyed the employee for ten minutes while I picked out the perfect fish. He told me not to name them because if you do, they usually die!
So we have had the fish for a few weeks now, and last week I decided that it was time to name them. I had been a little superticious before; after the guy told me not to name them. Tom and I were sitting around the table and he came up with the names: Napoleon & Pedro. (Reason being...the first fish is big and orange, the second fish was small w/dark lips & fins.) Well that was the WRONG MOVE!
We came home from dinner a couple nights after naming them and Pedro was laying on the rocks! The first thought that went through my head was that he is just sleeping. Tom pointed out that fish don't sleep bloated and upside down on rocks. So I fished him out with a spoon (which I later threw away) and we went to the powder room to flush him down. I drop him into the toilet and Tom starts singing, "Amazing Grace" at the top of his lungs...I flushed as he finished the song. It was absolutely hilarious. I thought about buying a new fish, but I think I will be over my kick after Napoleon dies.
